Problems updating avg 8 0
I'm guessing the load on the "free" servers is increasing, yet they receive no revenue and therefore it's harder to go ahead and continue to throw more money for more servers, at something they don't get any return on.If there plan is as you propose, I'm not sure who would go to the paid version as I wouldn't be comfortable assuming they could provide reliable service. I doubt they BEGAN with that marketing plan, but it's turned out EXACTLY that way. With Avast, my computer boots as fast as when I had NO virus protection, and scans take about an hour. For the connection problem I seem to remember there was a Micro Soft update that screwed around with it.I have been having the same problem for 2 days now.I have 4 PCs and the scans on all will not end unless I use the task mgr. When I did try scanning the PC it had not reached the end in four hours so I went to bed and found it done in the do a full system scan. Mind you, the 7.5 AV also takes about 50 minutes, so adding them together to cover both Virus & Spyware.... I'm, at this time, still not recommending upping to v.8 from 7.5 for happy users in my circle of non nerds. I usually download and save the version to disk as a backup in case it is needed for a reinstall. I choose to go to PC Tools antivirus I have not looked back to AVG sense there software is as good if not better no conflicts what so ever.
They could easily "throw more money" at the free servers, in order to allow the free version to remain a VIABLE product, but they have chosen not to. I just noticed a little good news for me -- "Support for AVG Anti-Virus 6.0 extended to February 15, 2005"-- BAnyone else having problems with AVG updates this morning?

I have Win XP Pro and a 2.4GHz quad Intel processor with 4GB of system memory.
This means that, at times, the free version is essentially useless. I've got a variety of friends and family all running AVG 7.0 and none of us can update this morning, it says an update is available and starts but then immediately closes the connection. I update AVG everyday in the middle of the day, cause my machine is always running at that time. I'm not implying they're purposely slowing down their own servers.

How else do YOU parse "Access to guaranteed high-speed servers for downloading updates and program upgrades" ? I am, however, saying that they KNOW their servers are overloaded and they leave it that way on purpose.
